Last month the Government unveiled its housing and planning Bill, which seeks to provide fast-track permissions on ‘brownfield’ land. The Bill seeks to introduce a new ‘in principle’ regime to sites that are listed on registers of suitable ‘brownfield’ land, with local planning authorities having to draw up registers of such land within their area. Initially this zoning mechanism is intended for small sites capable of accommodating up to 10 homes. However, applications will be subject to a more detailed consent on technical matters before full consent can be granted.
